Completing a Vision With Kitchen Countertops

Background

When the homeowners purchased this spacious house located in the heart of Venetia, they loved the main level open floor plan. However, they did not love the cherry cabinetry, traditional granite countertop, nor the kitchen island configuration.

The existing cherry cabinets were in beautiful condition; however, they did not match the color scheme of the rest of their furniture and personal taste. Therefore, the homeowner’s hired a professional painter to paint their perimeter cabinetry white and paint the island and bar cabinetry a light gray.

After those color decisions were finalized, the design consultants at Kingswood Designs helped select a new quartz countertop, tile backsplash and sink for their dream kitchen!

The Quartz

Though the existing granite countertops were attractive, the traditional ogee edge, standard four-inch backsplash and beige color scheme did not align with the personal preferences of the new homeowners. In turn, the homeowner’s visited our showroom to view granite and quartz samples. We focused on quartz colors, as the homeowner’s preferred a more uniform, clean look. With children in the house, quartz is a practical and aesthetically pleasing option. As a durable, stain resistant material, once quartz is installed, there is no further care or maintenance required. The eased edge completes this updated look with clean lines.

At Kingswood Designs, our countertop fabrication shop is located directly below our showroom. Our experienced fabricators are experts in vein matching seams, sink cutouts and installing a quality product in a timely manner.

The Full Height Backsplash

Since the island and bar cabinetry were painted with an accent gray, it was decided to make the backsplash at the bar area a continuation of the quartz countertop, as to not overload the gray coloring in this area. The stunning full height backsplash makes the bar its own entity complementing the rest of the space.

The Island

A countertop replacement project is the perfect opportunity to reconfigure island or peninsula sizes and overhangs, assuming your space allows for it. With young children, this family wanted a larger island to accommodate more seating for casual eating and entertaining. By extending the countertop several feet, with proper support, the new island comfortably seats their entire family and offers more than twice the amount of countertop space previously available.

The Tile Backsplash

With a relatively solid white countertop with subtle veining, the hunt for the appropriate backsplash was underway. Gray was an easy choice to break-up the white of the cabinets and the countertop and to pull in the veining from the quartz. Since the homeowners had a vast area to tile, it was proportionately appropriate to select the larger sized tile, a four by eight. To make the brick pattern pop, we selected white grout to highlight the design. Installing the tile backsplash from the bottom of the wall cabinets to the top of the quartz countertops offers a modern look that is easy to maintain.

The Sink

A double bowl configuration was a must-have. This model boasts a low divide, allowing you to partially fill one side with water for soaking but also affording you space to submerge larger items underwater, such as baking sheets. The 16-gauge stainless steel offers the best sound absorption properties and is the easiest to maintain.
